We are less than an hour's drive from the safe sandy beaches and waterside restaurants of the Atlantic coast.
La Rochelle, Royan, Ile de Ré and Ile d'Oléron are just a few of the popular places to visit,
but there are many quieter resorts if you prefer.![]()
La Rochelle
Nearer home you can visit the ancient town of Cognac, home to Hennessey, Martell, Remy Martin, Otard and other smaller distilleries.
Take a guided tour of a distillery, wander round the shops, or sit with a coffee at one of the street cafes. In the other direction is the town of Saintes with its Roman arch, amphitheatre and museum as well as two beautiful Romanesque
pilgrim churches and an attractive centre of narrow lanes and medieval houses.

Cognac Saintes
Boat trips along the Charente can be taken from Cognac and Saintes.
Further north we have Futuroscope theme park with a variety of experiences for all ages and Green Venice with its maze of canals.
From our house you can take one of the walks highlighted on the notice board in the market square or just stroll through the vineyards and woodland.
It is a pleasant 45 minute walk to the 12th century Abbaye de Fontdouce. Occasionally the Abbaye organises classical or jazz concerts
in their beautiful gardens or in the chapter room. There are four 18 hole golf courses in the area, at Cognac, Angouleme, Royan and Saintes.
You can either bring your own clubs or we will organise hire of any equipment and book your games in advance.
Just let us know your preferred tee off times and leave the rest to us.
We will also provide directions to the courses. The river Charente, which flows through Cognac and Saintes, is one of the best rivers in France for its fishing.
There is an open air swimming pool at the nearby village of St Bris de Bois.
