The farmhouse is situated in a quiet hamlet on the edge of Burie with a population of 1200. The aperitif Pineau, a sweet, fortified wine made from grape juice and Cognac, originated from Burie in 1589.
We are only 14 km from Cognac and 20 km from Saintes and are surrounded by vineyards.![]()
Burie Town Hall.
The Charente/Charente-Maritime regions are awash with rolling fields, oak and chestnut forests, valleys planted with vines and ochre tiled hamlets.
They are criss-crossed with ancient highways, including routes the Romans took when
transporting wine inland from the Atlantic coast.
In July the tiny by-ways lead through dazzling fields of sunflowers. This is the 'real France'.
A view of the vineyard from our garden and a local woodland walk. Although the setting is peaceful, it is only a 10 minute stroll into the village with its bar, restuarant and variety of shops. We are easily accessible by road, air and TGV train. Driving from the ferry or Paris towards Bordeaux on the A10 you can exit at St Jean d'Angély or Saintes. We will e-mail or post directions to assist you in your journey. Lynne and Steve Adams
The quiet lanes are ideal for cycling.
There are low cost flights to La Rochelle, Poitiers and Bordeaux from various airports in the UK.
TGV trains now travel from Paris to Angoulême in only 2½ hours.
